THE DESIGNER-MAKER FESTIVE MARKET LAUNCHES ITS FIRST “DESIGNER-MAKER JUNIOR” SECTION – A MARKET RUN BY KIDDIES, AND FOR KIDDIES – IN CONJUNCTION WITH KIDS DÉCOR AUTHOR SAM SCARBOROUGH, CREATOR OF “KIDS MARKET DAYS”
Cape Town’s much-loved Designer-Maker Market is proud to present its first-ever “Designer-Maker Junior Market”, market run by kiddies and for kiddies, which will form part of the third festive exhibition and market set to take place from 14-16 December at the Freeworld Design Centre courtyard, along Cape Town’s Fan Walk. This section of the market will be dedicated to the young and young at heart and will be conceived of, and run by Sam Scarborough of Kids Décor (www.kidsdecor.co.za), and the author of three books on home decorating ideas for children. Sam is the creator of the Kids Market Days that are run regularly from the Scout’s Hall in Oranjezicht and other locations in Cape Town.
The idea behind the Kids Market Days is an “earn your own pocket money approach” that teaches eager young minds entrepreneurial skills and the value of commercial exchange. There is also the opportunity for quality parent-child interactions as the Kids Market Days require parental involvement and support to generate goods that are handmade. Participating kids are encouraged to produce their own products for sale, such as painted pet rocks, cupcakes, and even flapjacks, which are then sold to other children and adults alike. Kids Market Days are suitable for age 4 and up.
Sam’s original concept will be in place at Freeworld’s Designer-Maker market, but has also been expanded in collaboration with the Freeworld Design Centre. The Kids Market Day at the Designer-Maker Market will now include an array of entertaining parent-child activities such as designing your own festive items from brightly coloured felt. There will also be a “mix, purchase and play” play dough station for the very little ones. In all, a host of positive and creative activities that will engage and help develop budding creative and conceptual skills. The kiddies section will also be beautifully decorated by Sam Scarborough and promises a visual feast of delightful ideas for kids, such as bunting, a tiny teepee, and a charming gazebo. Sam’s lastest book will be on sale in the kiddies’ section and she will be on hand to sign copies.
The kiddies section will be open for the duration of the market, at the following times:
Wednesday 14 December 15h30 – 17h30
Thursday 15 December 10h30 – 18h00
Friday 16 December 10h30 -18h00
The market itself closes at 21h00, and there are food and designer goods stalls available.
